It’s argued that sofas can be the most important piece of furniture in your home. You and everyone in your home spend a lot of time in the living room together; it’s a place of gathering and somewhere that you want to show off!  So you want something that is comfortable, durable and flows with the rest of your living room. Here at Magnum furniture retailer Bolton, we stock a huge range of different sofas, so no matter what you’re looking for, we will have something to suit your style, taste and budget!

The main two sofa styles are either leather pieces or fabric. And they both have their own pros and cons depending on what you want in your home.

Leather

The key reason that many people go for a leather sofa is due to its hypoallergenic properties. No threads, fluff of anything that could potentially shed off the sofa, meaning it’s the ideal choice for anyone who has sensitivities that can flair up with fabric.

Leather is also perfect for easy cleaning! If anything does get spilt on it (we all know that even the best intentions can’t stop this!) all you really need is a damp cloth and it’s like nothing has ever happened. Although the pillows might be a different story.

Many people also choose to furnish with leather as it can add a touch of class to a room, compared to some fabric sofas. Many leather sofas have been designed to work in a modern setting. Here at Magnum furniture retailer Bolton, we have also found that Rochester, Chesterfield and Barrington vintage sofas are making a big rise into fashion again.

However, one negative to remember is that while they are difficult to get dirty, they are easy to scratch or mark. Pets especially can damage leather sofas, and once they are damaged, it can be very difficult to reduce the marks.

Fabric

Most fabric sofa are bespoke and made to order, instead of ready to take away on the day.  This means that it can be customised. You can choose the fabric type, colour and patterns, so your sofa can be designed exactly the way you want.

And many of them can be treated with a stain repellent before they get sent out to you, which can massively reduce the risk of anything actually staining the sofa. However, if anything does leave a mark, most fabric sofas are dry clean only!

Finally, since fabric sofas are bespoke as mentioned before, they can be more expensive than leather sofas. But if you want something customised to your specific wants and needs, then many people will be willing to pay more.
